first_imgbaseball roll outThe Municipality of Portmore will hit-start the Jamaica Baseball Association (JBA) all-island project called “Baseball roll-out”.President of the JBA, Urel Gordon, has been busy getting schools registered as affiliates of his organisation.The main aim of the project is to spread the game of baseball throughout Jamaica.Errol Matthias the coordinator of the project said that this initiative will commence in Portmore, on Saturday, October 17 at 10 a.m. It is tentatively set for the UDC field, across from the Portmore Mall. Approximately 230 children, ages nine-12, from primary and preparatory schools will be taught the dynamics of the game. The theme for the project is “pitch it”, “hit it”, “field it”, “catch it”. The JBA on a broader scale will target players from age nine to 19 in primary, prep, junior high and high schools across the island. United continues unbeaten runDefending champions Passagefort United appear to have no equal in the Colin Fagan-sponsored South East St Catherine Domino League as they won their eighth match in a row last Sunday.Passagefort United surged to 32 points from eight games and lead by an 11-point margin, after they defeated fourth place, Garveymeade (17 points), 250-232. In other games, second place Cumberland (21 points), handed last place Portsmouth their seventh defeat of the season while third place Waterford (19 points), were on the losing end, 250-248 to a resurgent Westmeade Rising Stars (16 points). All games begin at 1 p.m.Portmore Primary competitions put on holdThe INSPORTS Portmore Primary Football and Netball Leagues will not start next week as planned.INSPORTS Sports Officers Andrea Hanson and Judith Thomas said at a meeting with coaches that a new date in November is being looked at for the commencement of the leagues. The Football League was scheduled to start on Thursday, October 8 while the Netball League was set to begin on Thursday, October 15. The opening day schedule for both competitions remains the same. Portsmouth Primary are defending champions for both leagues.Classic return to winning waysVeteran club Caribbean Classic returned to winning ways after their shock defeat to Spit Fyah in the Jamaica Domino Council Association (JDCA), mid-season final. They defeated Naggo Head 300-272 last Sunday.Spit Fyah, the newly crowned mid-season champions, easily beat Memory Lane 300-238. In other games Giants stampede Eradication 300-288; Waterhouse United cut down Small Axe 300-252; Right Stuff turned back Highlight Strikers 300-265; Tamerind Tree got past Feluchie 300-263; Spring Village triumphed 300-282 over Exceptional International and Ten to Ten beat Sour Sop Tree 300-281.
