“It is an absolute insult to @sehlinger3 to compare him to Tim Tebow.”@JoelKlatt explains why the @TexasFootball QB deserves more respect for how he’s started out the season. 🤘 pic.twitter.com/OrOYvwtiWw— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) September 26, 2019Ehlinger’s numbers in 2019 certainly would suggest that Klatt’s right. His 72-percent completion rate, 15 touchdowns through four games, and 4.5 yards per carry are all better than Tebow’s best years as a starter. But while Klatt may feel that Ehlinger is a better quarterback than Tebow, there are plenty who can make the opposite argument. For starters, Tebow had at least three years completing at least 65-percent of his passes. If Ehlinger finishes this year above that mark, it will be his first.Tebow also averaged at least 3.8 yards per carry in each of his four seasons. Again, if Ehlinger finishes above 3.8 yards per carry this year, it will also be his first. But the stat that may mean the most to fans and historians is wins and trophies.Tebow won two SEC and national titles (one each as a backup and one as a starter). Thus far, Ehlinger has none. And with one loss already, he may not even get a chance to play for a national title in 2019.We can debate Ehlinger vs. Tebow for hours on end. But we may need to wait until we get to see Ehlinger’s whole career play out before declaring him better than one of the greatest college players ever. (Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images)Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is currently enjoying a remarkable season with the Longhorns. The numbers he’s put up while leading Texas to a 3-1 start have made him a Heisman Trophy hopeful, and have Texas in the mix for the Big 12 title, if not the College Football Playoff. But while Ehlinger has been praised for his passing and rushing skillset, there’s one comparison that’s really grating on FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt’s nerves. On Thursday’s edition of Breaking The Huddle, Klatt made it clear that he doesn’t like seeing Ehlinger compared to Florida legend and former Heisman winner Tim Tebow.Klatt went so far as to call it “an absolute insult” to compare Ehlinger to Tebow. He explained that Ehlinger is about the same kind of runner as Tebow, but “twice or three times the passer” that Tebow was.
